Ayurveda, an ancient system of medicine developed in India 5000 years ago, is the sister science to yoga. It seeks to prevent disease and promote perfect health, balance, and longevity through simple guidelines that follow the natural rhythms of nature, the seasons, and the time of day.
Here are 7 Ayurvedic tips that can naturally and gently guide you toward healthy weight loss, without the use of chemicals, processed food, or extreme fad diets.
1. Eat three meals a day
Ayurveda emphasizes the importance of regular healthy eating. According the the wisdom of Ayurveda it is to treat food as a medicine. One must maintain a healthy metabolism by eating three filling and healthy meals through out the day.
2. No Snacking During the Day
Say no to processed or junk food. This is because if you eat in between the main meals, your body reaches out to burn sugar as a fuel instead of the stored fat. When you eat three healthy and hearty meals a day, it helps in stabilizing your energy levels and burn fat simultaneously.
3. Include all 6 Ayurveda tasting food in your meal plan
In Ayurveda recognizes six tastes: sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter, and astringent. Be sure to incorporate all six tastes into your daily diet.To reach the satiety level and curb the cravings, try and include sour, sweet, bitter, salty, astringent, and pungent flavours in all your meals.
4. No Meal after 7 pm on wards
Our erratic meal timings result in digestive issues like bloating, gas and constipation. According to Ayurveda, we must eat a light dinner before 7 pm. This will give your body enough time to detoxify overnight and keep you fresh and alert the next day.
5. Try to eat home cooked meals
Processed foods not only deprive you of the essential nutrients that your body needs to function well but are also laden with a host of chemicals. Your best bet to lose weight? Try and stick to fresh and organic (preferably) home cooked meals.
6. Sip hot water slowly through out the day
Ayurveda teaches we must sip slowly hot water throughout the day. It helps to get rid of the toxins accumulated in your body. For maximum benefits, try to have a few sips of warm water every half an hour. You can add a few drops of lemon juice and honey for added benefits and taste.
7. Track your sleep
Go to bed before 10:00 pm, when we get our second wind. Obtaining a proper seven to nine hours of sleep a night gives the body time to reset for the next day, and helps maintain healthy levels of cortisol (a stress-response hormone that causes weight gain). When you don’t catch enough quality sleep, it not only hampers your concentration levels the next day but also wreaks havoc on your health.
These Seven steps can have profound effects on your life. The main important step to remember is not to get stressed about it. As stress is one of the most significant causes of weight gain so the last thing we need is to stress out about that!
